On July 3, 2023, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) officially announced the introduction of VAR, a chess video arbiter based on idChess technologies, into tournaments.
The news says that the VAR system can be used if one of the players calls an arbiter to register a violation. It is expected to increase the number of right decisions in disputable situations. VAR is based on idChess technology.
Leading sports and business media from different countries wrote about the introduction of VAR by idChess.
“Thanks to the idChess technology and platform, for the first time in chess, a system for arbiter assistance has appeared that allows you to track controversial moments in the game and make the right decisions”.
“FIDE followed the example of football, volleyball, and tennis and decided to introduce the VAR system for participation in the ‘king's game’. The premiere took place during the West Asian Championship, held in Kyrgyzstan”
“VAR in chess is powered by idChess technology. The system can be used if one of the players has called an arbiter to register the violation”
much-the-same-as-in-football/327674/) “The VAR system has already proven itself in football, volleyball, and tennis. And now it has been introduced into chess. Don’t be fooled by the ease with which chess players play. Trust me, it's misleading!”
“The arbiter could miss this or that violation, or they can temporarily stop the players' clocks and the game itself. Then, view the recording in the idChess mobile app and use VAR, which shows the players' behavior, to determine if there is a violation of the rules. The arbiter then decides on a possible penalty”.
“The first chess tournament that uses the VAR system based on idChess technology is the Western Asia Youth Chess Championship taking place these days. In chess, the video assistant tracks the actions of chess players during games”.
“VAR (video assistant referee) is a set of technology solutions that help arbiters in competitions and are already used in different kinds of sports”.
“VAR is based on idChess technology and will be used if one of the players wants to call an arbiter to confirm a violation. For example, if one of the players says that their opponent touched a piece but the opponent denies it and the arbiter missed this moment.”
